The company launched the JFX500-2131 at drupa. The printer can output up to 60sqm/hr in four-colour mode or 50sqm/hr with white ink thanks to new print-heads. The JFX500-2131 delivers highly detailed printing down to 2pt characters.

The large-sized flatbed (2,100mm x 3,100mm) enables direct printing on a wide range of materials up to a 100mm high. The UV-LED curing unit ensures significantly improved curing-efficiency – high-speed printing is now possible without leaving uncured ink behind. And there’s a wide choice of hard or flexible inks to suit every job.

The system also uses eco-friendly, energy-saving, longer-lasting LEDs and almost no VOCs are generated by UV-curing printing. The printing process is also more efficient, as larger-sized substrates can be used.

Other new products on the company’s stand was the new JV400-SUV inkjet printer with solvent UV ink, the Easy Direct Print System for automatic misalignment adjustment, and pre-cut speciality label solutions. The UJF-3042HG print-and-cut machine was also showcased. The new JV400-LX wide-format printer, the only machine on the market to offer white latex ink, demonstrated its ability to print window graphics.

The company showcased the next-generation of grand format digital printers, the ‘Domin8tor’,  a True UV flatbed with a large 2m x 3.05m (78” x 120”) print area. The ‘Domin8tor’ prints ultra high resolution photographic quality with inline white or clear, and offer true UV flatbed grayscale high speed printer.

Sectional vacuum zones

Sectional vacuum zones on the Domin8tor enable quick change over to different sized media without the need to ‘tape off’ the remaining unused print area, speeding up production. You can easily print materials with different thicknesses as the head height adjusts automatically without the need to manually check it.

Print quality and speed on the ‘Domin8tor’ are driven by the inline ‘Blade’ head configuration system. The ‘Domin8tor’ can print a 25.4cm (10 inch) wide swath using 6-picoliter variable dot Ricoh heads (12 picoliter option available). Cleaning is made much easier with the fully automatic built-in head cleaning system. It both vacuums and blots the print heads, no need to wipe by hand.

iPad GUI interface

Operation of the ‘Domin8tor’ is made simple with the use of Gandy Digital’s own touch and drag GUI (Graphical User Interface) running on the iPad provides perfect ease of use of the ‘Domin8tor’ and turns it into a true mobile operation device enabling to step and repeat, rotate, delete ripped images, create jobs and more. The iPad also comes loaded with video tutorials and a live diagnostic system making maintenance schedules part of the routine.

Automated loader/unloader

The Domin8tor also has available an automated loader / unloader, speeding up the process of loading / unloading of large difficult to handle rigid materials and high volume print runs with only one operator required. This is an optional extra.

Also available on the GUI is a materials inventory control ordering system ‘iMediaMarket’ which is linked directly to all major manufactures and suppliers of Grand Format materials and consumables. This system also lets you keep track of your own media inventory and can advise if the stock for the next print job is available or running low. Profiles and software updates are also updated with the online system. Hence, CDs are no longer required. Gandy Digital’s ‘Domin8tor’ is the most advanced and ground-breaking Grand Format Digital Printer in the industry today.

The Domin8tor works with all major suppliers of RIP software intergrating seamlessly with your existing production department workflow. Please contact the RIP manufacturer for options, support and pricing.

Screen announced the launch of a new, high-speed, flat-bed wide format printer that brings new levels of productivity to the sign and display industry. The Truepress Jet W1632UV inkjet printer offers high productivity, outstanding image quality and the capability to image on a wide range of substrates. The printer makes its global debut at drupa (Hall 9/stand A40).

The continuous flow of new advertising media and market requirement for rapid response campaigns has stimulated the need for print-based promotions to be increasingly diversified and with reduced turnaround times. As a result, the sign and display print services industry are turning to output devices that deliver high speed coupled with high output quality – especially for POP and graphic display applications.

To meet the demand, Screen’s subsidiary company Inca Digital has developed the Truepress Jet W1632UV as the latest addition to Screen’s range of wide-format inkjet printing systems. It combines Screen’s outstanding imaging technology with Inca’s world-leading reputation for quality engineering and reliability.

This new printer provides a high throughput of 94 sqm (1,011.8 sqft) per hour, the best in its class, and supports media sizes up to 1,600mm x 3,200mm (63in x 126in) and a maximum 48mm (1.9in) thickness. The use of 12 picolitre micro-droplet printheads makes the Truepress Jet W1632UV one of the most advanced inkjet systems available for POP applications, giving razor-sharp 1200 dpi text, fine definition and smooth vignettes. In addition, since the Truepress Jet W1632UV supports the use of light cyan and light magenta, the system is ideal for photographic-quality and back/front lit display applications.

Together, these features deliver high-speed output of top-quality images for high-volume POP and graphic displays.

‘The Truepress Jet W1632UV offers the optimum blend of productivity, quality and ROI demanded from the sign and display print market,’ says Kees Mulder, President, Screen Europe. ‘Our wide-format inkjet lineup is set to continue to grow to offer a range of devices that precisely address the range of both interior and exterior sign and display applications.’

Starleaton Digital Solutions has launched two new wide format media products under the HELIX brand, HELIX Solvoprint No Light 210, which features a superior silver-backing to prevent light from showing through printed images, and HELIX Printlux No Light 215 for Aqueous printer applications.

‘Our new HELIX No Light 210 performs brilliantly using Latex, Eco-Solvent, Solvent and UV Cure processes,’ said Starleaton Director Gary Smith. ‘Roll-Up, Pop-Up, Banner and other portable displays often suffer from light show-through because non-backed media has been used, resulting in a ‘misty’ look. With HELIX Silverback technology, I think it’s fair to say we’ve got a Gorilla without the Mist!’

HELIX No Light 210 is a 210 micron polypropylene film with a matte surface that is scratch and water-resistant. For added protection and longer outdoor life, Starleaton has a range of compatible laminates available.

Also new with the Silverback lining is HELIX Printlux No Light 215 for Aqueous printer applications. Water-based pigmented inks are recommended for this product but dye inks may be used for short-term indoor displays. HELIX Printlux No Light is also polypropylene (no PVC) and is 215 microns thick.

A third new HELIX Product is translucent for the lightbox display market. This is HELIX Solvoprint CityLight 210; a polyester front-print film that looks great backlit or frontlit. It prints with Solvent, Eco-Solvent, Latex and UV Cure inks and exhibits outstanding photo-realistic quality for critical advertising work.

All three new HELIX products are available in 91cm (36”), 107cm (42”) and 152cm (60”) widths, with CityLight also available in 127cm (50”) wide rolls.

Roland owners from around the world submitted their best work created on a Roland and now the local winners have been announced. The ‘Fridge Art’ design by Impressive Signs was the winner while Galloping Naartjie and and Switch Media Lab each received Honourable Mention Awards.

‘When my wife first told me that I had won the Regional Winner category of the 2011 Roland Creative Awards I couldn’t believe my ears! I was so surprised I had to check twice to assure myself that it was right and I had indeed won, said Impressive Signs owner, Francois Hattingh. The Fridge Art graphic adds an interesting dimension to fridges, which are usually seen as ordinary and boring objects.

Galloping Naartjie did various wallpapers for Waltons’ head office in Pine Town as well as a customised wallpaper for an interior designer. ‘We take huge pride in our work and being able to offer our customers a product that can be customised to their exact needs! We always try and be a little different and a Roland machine can take us there,’ said Ian Jamieson from Galloping Naartjie.

George Roth from Switch Media Lab entered his ‘beach setting’ Contravision print into the competition. Roth suggested this solution for a client who was looking for something to brighten up his porch. ‘The sunny beach setting was suggested because the porch will always feel tranquil come rain or shine,’ said Roth.
