As businesses face growing pressure to reduce their environmental impact, the focus is shifting towards practical sustainability measures that can be tracked and measured. Epson META-CWA has expanded its Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) initiative across multiple offices and experience centres in the region through the purchase of 416 MWh of RECs.
The initiative now covers 10 sites, including Epson’s Dubai headquarters, the UAE Experience Centre, and offices in Türkiye, Kenya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Ukraine, and Israel. It supports renewable energy generation by helping account for electricity consumption through a recognised certificate mechanism and forms part of Epson’s broader environmental commitments.
The REC initiative supports Epson’s Environmental Vision, which aims to become carbon negative and eliminate the use of underground resources by 2050. Epson has also established 2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), reflecting the company’s commitment to measurable climate action.
For the March 2025 to April 2026 reporting period, the REC purchase was based on the combined electricity consumption of the covered sites. An equivalent amount of renewable energy was purchased and supplied to the electricity grid through RECs.
‘True corporate responsibility requires organisations to look beyond their immediate operations. These innovations form part of ongoing global decarbonisation initiatives, supported by measurable targets. Through our ambitious ‘Engineered Future 2035’ vision, we have set a target to become carbon-negative and underground resource-free by 2050,’ said Bella Tobing, Head of Corporate Sustainability and Government Affairs, Epson META-CWA.
This focus also extends to Epson’s product innovation, with its heat-free inkjet printers powered by MicroPiezo technology using up to 85% less energy and CO2 emissions compared to laser technology. Sustainability is also reflected in Epson’s EcoTank range, which incorporates 30-35% recycled materials and uses high-capacity refillable ink tanks. One set of ink bottles is equivalent to 79 traditional ink cartridges, helping reduce material use and plastic waste.
As a sales and marketing organisation operating across the Middle East, Türkiye, Africa, and Central and West Asia, Epson META-CWA continues to identify practical ways to reduce the environmental impact of its operations while supporting Epson’s wider sustainability ambitions. Through initiatives such as REC purchases and ongoing operational improvements, the company remains committed to contributing to a more resource-efficient future.
