Improving manufacturing competitiveness starts with strengthening the problem-solving capability of those closest to the work. Earlier in June, the Cape Clothing and Textile Cluster (CTCC) brought together 25 manufacturing leaders from across its membership for a two-day Lean Problem-Solving Bootcamp. Using real operational challenges drawn from participants’ factory floors, delegates were trained on and worked through structured lean methodologies to strengthen their ability to identify root causes, analyse problems systematically and implement countermeasures.
Workshops such as these reinforce and underpin the value of clustering. Beyond providing access to high-quality capability development at a lower cost of going it alone, clusters create opportunities for cross-firm learning, allowing manufacturers to share experiences, test ideas and accelerate improvement together. The collective exchange between leaders often becomes as valuable as the formal training itself, helping to spread practical knowledge and strengthen problem-solving capability across the wider manufacturing ecosystem.
CTTC offered its sincere thanks to facilitator Jan Erasmus for generously sharing his expertise over the two days, and to ACA Threads for hosting the programme and complementing the learning experience with a guided site visit that showcased the role of operating culture in sustaining continuous improvement.
CTCC look forward to reconnecting with participants in the months ahead to understand how these problem-solving journeys translate into operational improvements and measurable impact within their businesses.
