The weather not only affects people, it affects DTF prints too. Sean R Conrad, Technical Solutions Specialist at TapeTech, shares tips to take care of DTF prints during extreme temperatures.

Temperature and humidity have a significant impact on every stage of DTF production, from inks, films and adhesive powders during printing to the storage and transport of finished transfers. By maintaining a stable working environment and using quality consumables, printers can reduce downtime and achieve consistent and reliable results throughout the year.
Winter Printing
For best performance, maintain a room temperature between 20-25°C. Cold temperatures increase ink viscosity, making white ink particularly prone to poor circulation and printhead clogging. Relative humidity of around 45–55% helps reduce static electricity, improves powder adhesion and makes DTF film easier to handle. Dry winter air can attract dust, weaken adhesive coverage and increase the risk of brittle film.
A small heater and humidifier are often inexpensive investments that improve consistency, reduce maintenance and minimise production interruptions.
Summer Printing
High temperatures can accelerate ink drying at the printhead, while excessive humidity allows adhesive powder to absorb moisture, leading to clumping and inconsistent transfer performance. Store inks, films and powders in a cool and dry environment away from direct sunlight. Keep powders tightly sealed after use and leave film in its original packaging until required.
Finished DTF transfers can be stored flat or rolled, provided they are protected from moisture, excessive heat and direct sunlight. Sealed packaging helps preserve adhesive performance and ensures that transfers remain in optimum condition.
Consistency Delivers Quality
Many print quality problems are caused by environmental conditions rather than the printer itself. Maintaining a stable workspace, together with high-quality consumables, helps produce consistent colour, reliable adhesion and durable DTF transfers in every season.
With more than 35 years of experience in coatings, adhesives and technical product development, TapeTech combines proven technical knowledge with quality-tested DTF consumables to help customers achieve consistent, reliable printing.
