ORAFOL’s new Namibian branch manager, Elaine O’Callaghan, discusses her vision for the branch as well as signage and graphics trends, and gives advice to women wanting to succeed in the industry.
What is your vision for the ORAFOL Namibian branch?
To position the ORAFOL Namibian branch as the benchmark for quality, innovation, and service excellence within the local graphics and signage industry. This means not only supplying world-class materials but also building strong partnerships with our clients through technical support, training, and consistent reliability. I want the branch to be seen as a solutions-driven hub that empowers businesses to elevate their branding standards while growing sustainably in a competitive market.
What trends are you seeing in the Namibian signage/graphics market, and how do ORAFOL’s products address these?
We are seeing a clear shift toward premium finishes, longer-lasting materials, and more visually impactful branding, especially in vehicle wraps and corporate identity applications. Clients are becoming more quality-conscious and are prioritising durability over short-term cost savings.
ORAFOL’s product range directly aligns with these trends by offering high-performance films, advanced adhesive technologies, and materials designed for both longevity and ease of application. This allows our clients to deliver superior results while improving efficiency and reducing rework.
How long have you been working in the graphics/signage industry and what first drew you to the printing, signage, or branding industry?
I am relatively new to the graphics and signage industry, having stepped into this space recently as part of my professional growth. What drew me in was the dynamic nature of the industry, where creativity meets practical application and every project has a visible, real-world impact.
From the outset, I was intrigued by how branding can transform a business’s presence, whether through signage, vehicle wraps, or print media. Being new has also allowed me to approach the industry with a fresh perspective, a strong willingness to learn, and a focus on quickly understanding both the technical and commercial aspects of the business.
What is your advice to women considering a career in this industry?
Step into the industry with confidence and a willingness to learn. This space has traditionally been male-dominated, but that is changing, and there is significant opportunity for women to bring fresh perspectives and leadership.
Focus on building both technical knowledge and business acumen. Don’t wait to feel ‘ready’ before taking on challenges, growth happens in the process. Most importantly, back yourself. Competence builds credibility, and consistency builds respect.
How did you handle moments where you felt underestimated?
Rather than reacting emotionally, I focused on delivering results. In many cases, performance speaks louder than perception. I made it a priority to be well-prepared, informed, and solution-oriented in every interaction. Over time, consistency in execution shifts how others perceive you. Instead of trying to prove people wrong, I focused on proving value, and that naturally changed the narrative.
What skills have been most critical to your success in this industry?
Adaptability, communication, and problem-solving have been key. The industry evolves quickly, so being able to adjust to new technologies and market demands is essential.
Strong communication ensures alignment with clients and teams, while problem-solving enables you to navigate challenges efficiently. In addition, attention to detail and a commitment to quality are non-negotiable in delivering work that stands out.
What excites you most about the future of printing, signage, or branding?
The continuous innovation in materials and application techniques. The industry is moving toward smarter, more sustainable solutions, as well as more dynamic and customised branding experiences.
There is also growing potential for integration between digital and physical branding, which opens new ways for businesses to engage their audiences. Being part of an industry that is constantly evolving and pushing creative boundaries is incredibly motivating.
