Neschen Expands Range Of PVC-Free Materials For Large-Format Printing Market

Neschen has launched its print PP MR L-UV and print PP MR L-UV air-matrix films. These products are designed to meet the growing demand for alternatives to monomeric PVC films, particularly for use in event graphics, trade shows, and indoor signage, as commonly implemented by print service providers, brand managers, and creative agencies.

Both self-adhesive media are made from a white, matt, 60µm polypropylene film and are completely PVC-free. They offer excellent dimensional stability and feature a light grey, water-based and removable adhesive that ensures reliable bonding on a wide range of surfaces.

The print PP MR L-UV air-matrix version additionally features air-channel technology that allows for easy, bubble-free application. This is especially advantageous for time-sensitive campaigns such as seasonal promotions, retail activations, or short-term signage, even when applied by non-specialists.

Typical use cases include eye-catching shop window displays, temporary wayfinding systems at trade fairs, point-of-sale spaces in retail environments, or promotional graphics in public venues.

‘When developing new print media, we not only focus on print quality and user-friendliness but also on how material choices affect the environment and end-of-life handling,’ explained Dr. Yvonne Galinski, Head of R&D at Neschen. ‘Polypropylene strikes a good balance: it’s PVC-free, dimensionally stable, mechanically robust, and has a lower environmental impact compared to PVC, both in production and thermal disposal. This allows print service providers and brands to reduce the ecological footprint of project-based applications without compromising on reliability or quality.’

Both films are optimised for use with UV-curable and latex inks. They are certified according to EN 13501 (B-s1, d0) for flame retardancy, making them suitable for use in public indoor spaces. Designed for durability of up to two years, the films are ideal for short to mid-term applications in indoor and sheltered outdoor settings. The print results offer exceptional colour brilliance and sharpness, and the materials are easy to process – including with standard cutting plotters – making them highly user-friendly for finishing.

While PVC-free films are not inherently sustainable, they offer ecological advantages over traditional PVC products, including more resource-efficient production and reduced environmental impact during disposal.

‘With our new digital print films, print PP MR L-UV and print PP MR L-UV air-matrix, we intentionally combine technical reliability with a reduced ecological footprint,’ said Moritz Weber, Head of Marketing at Neschen Coating. ‘These are future-ready solutions that meet the demands of modern communication projects and responsible sourcing policies alike.’
