The increase in volumes and the growing complexity of processing made it clear that the cutting department needed to be upgraded. ‘With the increase in production, managing the cutting process was becoming increasingly complex. In the customised wallpaper segment, especially with dark or very intense colors, even the slightest variation can compromise the result. Millimetre-level cutting precision and consistent repeatability are therefore essential requirements.
This is further complicated by the processing of soft materials, which are naturally subject to expansion and therefore require absolute stability and control during the cutting process.
The choice fell on the Miura Katana because of its accuracy performance. ‘The first thing that struck us about the Miura Katana was its cutting precision,’ emphasised Prati. The cutter is supported by an advanced control system, and thanks to its exclusive V-shaped angled cut system, the alignment of the tiles once cut is perfect throughout the entire production run.
The introduction of the Miura Katana has also led to a significant improvement in the quality of the finished product. ‘The joints of the cut tiles are now precise, even on complex graphics and intense colours where any imperfection or white cutting edge would be immediately visible,’ said Prati.
The Miura Katana automatic cutter has expanded the company’s production capabilities, enabling the processing of materials that were previously more difficult to handle.
Optimisation has also been a key factor: thanks to precise adjustment of the cutting parameters, it has been possible to significantly reduce waste, particularly in sample production.
From an operational standpoint, the ability to adjust cutting speed and use automatic mode makes it possible to process full rolls more quickly, transferring them directly to the packaging phase. The result is smoother order management, optimised production times, and greater responsiveness during peak periods.
The benefits have also been noticed by the market. Architects, designers, and installers have observed improved cutting precision and joint continuity, key elements in assessing the quality of a high-end wallcovering.
