Canon Announces New Colorado XL-Series

The new Colorado XL-series is a 3.4m roll-to-roll and hybrid graphics production printer designed to handle both flexible and rigid media with speed and ease. It is one base printer that is configurable and upgradable in the field. The base technology is the unique UVgel technology, which is the same proven ink technology used in the Colorado series.

The Colorado XL-series is designed for future-proof, in-field upgradeability. Users invest only in the productivity level they need today. They can then upgrade to easily increase options as their business grows.

High uptime, low maintenance, and proven low total cost of ownership make the Colorado XL-series a smart, reliable investment. With low-energy curing, minimal gel use, and odourless, durable prints that reduce lamination, the Colorado cuts waste and resources. Smart automation and recyclable packaging support sustainability efforts, while low VOCs and GREENGUARD Gold certification make it safe for sensitive interiors.

Print creative applications with a spectacular colour gamut and use the optional white for multilayer applications. Print white gel like any other colour and overcome common clogging and maintenance issues faced by other white ink technologies.

At the heart of the Colorado XL-series is Canon’s in-house developed and manufactured UVgel 850 printhead technology. These are so advanced that users only need two printheads for the regular CMYK colours and an optional third printhead for printing UVgel White. Designed for productive, high-quality large format graphics, each printhead has 4544 nozzles, with automated nozzle monitoring and instant correction.

The Colorado XL-series introduces the unique UVgel TRIdrive (Three Roller Interactive) vacuum belt system. It’s designed to help limit errors at job start-up, for easy loading, highly precise media positioning and reliable and unattended printing that helps users create razor-sharp applications that truly impress.

The Colorado XL-series has an agile and precise printhead carriage that features UVgel DynamicMotion Control. This helps to ensure exceptional print quality even with challenging media. It uses high-speed, high-resolution machine vision technology that actively tracks any micro movement of the media while the carriage is travelling. It recalibrates the printhead positioning on the fly for unmatched precision and alignment of print passes, helping to provide flawless results even at high speeds.

The unique FullBeam Curing opens up a world of high-end applications and incredible colour results. The curing beam is separated from the printhead carriage and can apply light continuously over the full width, up to 3.4 metres. Users can cure up to five high-density layers, all in one pass, over the full width of the media, securing perfect quality without UV banding.
