EFI™ launched its EFI R3225 3.2-metre roll-to-roll, entry-level production UV inkjet printer at ISA (International Sign Expo). The 3.2-metre roll-to-roll, entry-level production UV inkjet printer offers stunning image quality, low total cost of ownership, and access to a wide range of flexible substrates at production speeds.
The EFI R3225 provides eight-level variable drop greyscale heads for superior quality images, optimised ink usage, and UV-curing inks for access to a wide range of substrates, giving owners the lowest total cost of ownership, greatest profit opportunity, additional addressable markets, and high customer satisfaction. Its UV-curable ink technology allows for the widest range of flexible substrates across countless applications including POP, banners, signage, fleet graphics, exhibition graphics and more.
‘Using true eight-level variable drop grayscale technology, the EFI R3225 delivers stunning images, durable prints, and optimized ink usage,’ said EFI product manager Scott Wood. ‘This environmentally-friendly printer produces minimal VOC levels, and reduced energy costs. The printer uses proven UV-curable ink technology, and is ‘the’ alternative to latex printers for customers looking to migrate their current wide format eco-solvent and solvent printers to a more environmentally-friendly solution, while upgrading their businesses to drive expansion and profitability.’
‘The launch of the EFI R3225 is a significant move for print service providers wanting to make the move into 3.2m roll-to-roll wide-format UV-curable production but, until now, have been prevented from doing so because there has been no pedigree platform in the entry-level sector,’ said wide-format digital consultant Sophie Matthews-Paul. ‘Users need the assurance that, even though their investment comes at the low-end, they are benefiting from machine build, technology, ink and overall quality from a high-end manufacturer.’
The printer is designed to deliver outstanding output to printers of all levels and sizes. Every aspect of the printer has been evaluated to drive simple daily operation and routine maintenance for optimal up-time without compromising print quality. This includes the design of the software and mechanical features of the printer. Other enhanced features and benefits include print speeds up to 83,6 sqm (900 square feet) per hour with stunning greyscale print quality, along with automated features to maximize productivity.
The EFI R3225 will be available in the second quarter of 2012.

The company has launched its router module for the F1612 flatbed cutter at the Sign & DIGITAL UK expo. The module is capable of milling most used solid boards in the graphic and sign industry, such as hard foam PVC, acrylic and aluminium covered foam boards.

The module has a 1 kW motor. The router also includes a vacuum cleaning kit to take away the chips and dust. The router module can be easily mounted and dismounted, making changeovers between knife-cutting and routing quick and easy.

Summa’s S Class and SummaCut roll cutters were also exhibited, as well as the DC4sx environmentally friendly thermal transfer printer-cutter.

Mutoh Belgium introduced its new ValueJet 1638 line, the two four-colour 165cm (64”) wide high speed printers, at Sign & Digital UK 2012. The models are the first ValueJet printers to feature a staggered dual head setup, offering improved productivity.
The new ValueJet 1638 model, offering sellable production quality speeds up to 36sqm/h at 720 x 720 dpi, is targeted at the sign and display market. The printer utilises Mutoh Eco Ultra CMYK inks and will address the needs of print service providers (PSPs) and commercial printers looking for a high volume printing solution.

The ValueJet 1638W model was designed specifically for the sublimation transfer market. The printer uses Mutoh’s water-based direct disperse inks and will deliver production speeds up to 65sqm/h.
The new dual head printers incorporate the company’s award-winning Intelligent Interweaving print technology which guarantees predictable and repeatable output quality.  The VJ-1638 and VJ-1638W printers also feature a high level of operator comfort and print production efficiency, thanks to a newly-designed keyboard, an automatic sheet off system and a tiltable ink cassette holder which saves space and enables loading of different ink volumes.
Staggered Dual Head Setup for Increased performance
The new 1638 dual head printers offer a unique blend of high speed and high quality printing. The new staggered head setup is a good example of how ‘1+1’ can be more than ‘2’.  Three elements are brought together. Firstly, two latest generation 1440 nozzle heads in a staggered setup. Secondly, higher carriage speeds and ink firing frequencies thanks to new machine electronics. Last but not least, adapted weaving algorithms tuned to the new print heads. Altogether, this technology mix gives an impressive increase in production speed in combination with an optimized ink spread and improved drying behaviour.
‘The ValueJet 1638 line will enable us to perfectly address the needs of volume-oriented users requiring high print speeds and who at the same time put impeccable print quality on top of their wish list,’ said Arthur Vanhoutte, Mutoh Belgium’s General Manager.
‘The ValueJet 1638 is the fastest 165cm (64”) Eco printer on the market today. It will replace our Blizzard 166cm (65”) model and is an addition to the recently launched ValueJet 1324 – 138cm (54”) and ValueJet 1624 models. The ValueJet 1638W has been purpose-built for high-speed digital transfer printing. The ‘W’ stands for water-based. This model will replace our Viper Extreme 166cm (65”) printer and will complement our existing ValueJet 1304W 138cm (54”) and 1604W 165cm dye sub printers.  With sellable production speeds up to 65sqm/h, the 1638W will set a new performance benchmark for wide-format dye sub printers in the growing market of soft signage applications,’ Vanhoutte concluded.

Graphix Supply World got 2012 off to a flying start; exhibiting in numerous shows in South Africa and Africa, opening the new Durban office and new product offerings. The TS34-1800A was well received at the Sign Africa RoadShow in Durban. Visitors from all around Kwa-Zulu Natal visited the GSW stand. On display was Mimaki’s best-selling CJV30 print and cut machine, together with the new TS34-1800 dye sublimation printer from Mimaki. Many people came to inquire about the new Mimaki machines, in particular the new Mimaki Latex printer JV400-130/160LX which will be available in South Africa in a couple of month’s time.

In the print and signage industry, GSW has noted a significant shift from conventional printing to textile printing, in attempt to broaden their offerings. Customers can produce a range of items from clothing to POS/display solutions such as banners with dye sublimation printing. Printing to polyester with aqueous dyes can be achieved by printing direct to coated, stable variants of the fabric, or via the dye-sublimation transfer method, which is best suited to uncoated and ‘stretchy’ forms of the material.

Sales have already been concluded for the Mimaki JV400-130/160LX printer, before customers have even seen the machine. This is testament to the good reputation and quality of the Mimaki brand, that customers purchase Mimaki machines before they have seen them in operation. One customer remarked, ‘I know with Mimaki that what you see is what you get. The machines look sturdy and their reliability is proven time and time again. My Mimaki machines pay for themselves within three months. They are true quality production printers.’

On Monday 12th March, GSW celebrated the opening of its new Durban office. The event included guests like Mr. Horiguchi from Mimaki HQ in Japan and Managing Director, Robert Franco. Visitors were welcomed into the new 1000 meter square premises with refreshments, and Mr Ryutaro Horiguchi of Mimaki explained some of the new Mimaki technology launched at FESPA last month.

Among the machines on display was Mimaki’s new dye sublimation printer, the TS34-1800A. This new state-of-the art wide-format production dye-sublimation inkjet printer prints with disperse dyes to transfer paper, which is then pressed onto polyester fabric with a heat press, releasing the ink from the paper and imprinting the material.

Aimed at the sportswear, fashion and soft signage, exhibition graphics and retail point-of-sale (POS) markets, the TS34 is Mimaki’s new production-level printer. The TS34-1800A can print on a variety of materials at up to 32sqm/hr at a resolution of 540x720dpi. ??
