Zünd UK Showcases Graphics Applications To Students

Zünd UK hosted five small group sessions across a week to meet Covid-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing. A mixture of digital cutting demonstrations for graphics, packaging and composite applications were shown to the students with the use of robotics, automation, contactless part-marking and projection.

Industrial Systems, Manufacture and Management (ISMM) is an intensive one-year programme that prepares high calibre graduates for accelerated careers in the industry. The course aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by integrating classroom teaching, company visits and in-company projects.

Zünd UK recently welcomed a group of ISMM postgraduate manufacturing students from the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge to their demonstration facilities in St Albans.

Students also had the opportunity to see the Zünd Cut Centre software in action, including the ZCC dashboard, which demonstrated the plethora of real-time production data available and offering them all a great insight into available information as they will be managing factories or production lines in the future.

Simon Pattinson, Industrial Tutor at Cambridge University said, ‘Company visits are an essential part of the learning process, and we greatly appreciate Zünd’s support, especially in such difficult times. The ISMM programme is over 50 years old – but reinforcement learning can be traced back to Confucius, ‘I hear and I forget, I see, and I remember, I do and I understand.’

Nicki Kay, Managing Director at Zünd UK said, ‘It was a privilege to share with these Managers and Directors of the future the latest in cutting technologies and to see their obvious interest in the opportunities for automation and efficiencies in manufacturing. Zünd UK is very proud to be associated with the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing and to support their students with a hands-on experience that will hopefully stay with them as their careers progress.’

Reflecting back on the event, one of the students said, ‘The Zünd visit was great. The format with a presentation to get to know the company before diving into a practical demonstration gave us a well-rounded understanding of what they do. It was a wonderful learning opportunity to see the capabilities of the cutting systems and how versatile they can be whilst maintaining their precision. We were also impressed by the business model and how Zünd buys back old machines. Next, we would love to see how the machines are made in Switzerland.’

Trotec Showcasing Laser Cutters And Software At FESPA Global Print Expo

Trotec is showcasing its SP2000 laser cutter, which is an ideal tool for shop and display fittings. The most diverse materials can be laser finished on the 1680mm x 2510mm work area.

The laser machines of the SP series are highly efficient and ideally suited for demanding cutting applications. Due to the distinct and open design of the V-shaped body, the working area is easy to access from all four sides and allows economical loading and unloading even during processing.

The bigger pendant SP3000 was already honoured with two of the most renowned design prizes: the iF Design Award and the German Design Award. Furthermore, the company will showcase its Ruby® laser software to a specialist audience, which makes working with the laser simpler and faster.

The laser software makes daily work with the laser run seamlessly. It is a simple and fast workflow from idea to product and guarantees profitable order processing. The set-up is connected, web-based and digital to the core.

Furthermore, Trotec will present the popular flexx laser machines for maximum flexibility. The Speedy flatbed lasers of the flexx series are equipped with a CO2 and a fibre laser. The two laser sources can be activated without manual change of the laser source, lens or focus.

Virtually anything can be marked and engraved using this laser device: from plastics or wood to glass or metal, even workpieces with mixed materials. The solutions will be presented at FESPA Global Print Expo, taking place from 12-15 October in Amsterdam.

Dataline And Enfocus Launch App For Print Workflow

The MultiPress Connect app gives the user the best of both worlds: the powerful automation possibilities of Switch combined with the extensive and up-to-date information in MultiPress. The modular Switch platform from Enfocus offers versatile automation possibilities for prepress and print production workflow.

Through the MultiPress Connect app, the user shares all necessary CRM/ERP data with Switch, such as new or changed contact details, estimate and quotation information or updated order status. The receipt of files or, for example, approval of a digital proof version is also passed on immediately.

With the development of this MultiPress Connect app, it’s possible to optimise Switch with the data from MultiPress. With the application, all stored information from MultiPress is automatically linked to a job in Switch.

Enfocus’ modular Switch platform offers versatile automation possibilities for prepress and print production workflow.

The platform:

– Allows users to compose their workflows to partially or fully automate their production processes.
– Creates links between software applications, but is also open for connections with external partners.
– Has an appstore with ready-made apps from external parties. With these apps, users can quickly and easily add extra functionality to their Switch workflows and make easy links to the external party’s solution.

Davy Verstaen, Solution Architect at Dataline commented, ‘It’s no surprise that the Switch platform is rapidly gaining popularity and is being adopted across the graphic arts industry. Our team saw this development and believes that MultiPress users should also be able to benefit from this. Therefore, we decided to connect both systems using the new MultiPress Connect app.’

Angelo Manno, Global OEM & Strategic Accounts Manager at Enfocus added, ‘The Switch platform’s mission is to bring together the ever-growing range of quality software in the graphic arts industry. We are therefore thrilled to be able to add a major MIS player like MultiPress to our list of integrations. This is an important step towards full process automation for many customers.’

Based on these notifications from MultiPress, Switch processes the current information and subsequently takes the necessary action fully automatically. In turn, Switch feeds back data via the MultiPress Connect app, so that MultiPress automatically takes action. This feedback of data from Switch to MultiPress takes place automatically and without errors, which saves users a lot of time and money.

This is the only way to take the automation of the order flow to the next level: it creates a fully integrated solution, without the necessary intervention of order managers or prepress operators.

As soon as a customer approves a quotation and submits his/her files online, a preflight profile is selected based on the order information. After automatic preflight, the order status is updated and the customer receives confirmation that his/her digital proof is available. After approval by the client, MultiPress informs the Switch platform, after which the files are immediately processed further towards production.

Users can also automate all kinds of optional steps in the workflow. For example, an order for which the files have been received can be directly included in the planning to guarantee timely production. The required materials and paper stock are immediately reserved and, based on JDF, the files can be sent directly to imposition. The big advantage: nowhere in this process is it necessary to manually enter or update information. Discover the MultiPress Connect app on the Switch platform here.
